COVID-19 hit Killington real estate sales hard in the 2nd quarter

Second quarter Killington real estate sales volume plummeted 60% compared to the number of sales in the 1st quarter of 2020 and 75% compared to the 2nd quarter last year. There has only been one other year in the past 15 years of tracking Killington sales data that 2nd quarter sales were fewer than 1st quarter sales and that was only by 20%. Overall, year to date sales volume is down 47% and revenue is down 54% compared to the 1st half of last year.

Real estate sales were deemed “nonessential” and shut down by the Governor of Vermont’s executive order on March 25, 2020. Face-to-face showings to out-of-state buyers (the large majority of Killington buyers) were not allowed until June 15, 2020, and even still are subject to state-mandated restrictions. Some video showings could start to occur on May 15th but sales activity did not seem to start to rebound until the Governor’s order was eased.
